Registration is now open for the Grade 12 English (ENG4U) credit course, in partnership with Reach Cambridge, in the summer of 2025.
Taking a TCS summer course at Cambridge University is an experiential learning opportunity where students can earn an Ontario Secondary School credit while travelling and discovering a new culture. Students will travel and live within a safe and structured environment chaperoned, in part, by TCS faculty. They will be taught by TCS teachers using TCS curriculum approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education. They will be presented with challenging and creative course material that will relate to each location's scenery and sites. Excursions, site programming and other culturally targeted initiatives are facilitated by our program partner, REACH Cambridge. Summer courses abroad foster an appreciation of the practice that is "living learning." An enriched curriculum is enhanced by the opportunity to develop cultural literacy, something of key importance given our inter-connected world. TCS, at home and abroad, is a place in the world and of the world.
2025 Course Details
Course Structure
Cambridge 2025 will be a hybrid model, with the first part of the course online beginning on June 26th, and then moving to Cambridge, U.K., for two weeks of in-person learning. This model has proven effective over the past two years, with students having the opportunity to lay the groundwork for their studies in advance of leaving for the U.K.
The online part of the course will be synchronous for part of the time only. Students will then work on their own without needing to be in front of a screen. They can take this part of the course from any location providing that they have an internet connection.
Students should arrive in the U.K. on July 6th. Classes will begin on July 7th and run until July 19th. Please note that no accommodation or supervision at Cambridge is available before July 6th. The university year ends much later in the U.K. and rooms are not available.
Course Cost: $9,595
Note: The price includes the course, accommodations, all excursions and most meals. The cost of flights is not included as airline travel will be arranged by families. View a detailed list of what is included in the course price.
TCS Travel Bursary: A bursary is available that covers approximately 50% of the cost; it may be awarded to one recipient or shared. The generous, anonymous, donor has stipulated that students applying for the bursary must already be receiving financial assistance from TCS. Students are to be registered before they apply for the bursary. Details of the bursary application process will be sent to students once their registration form has been received.
Registration, Terms & Conditions: Download the registration form, which contains specific terms and conditions. Registration deadline is January 15, 2025.
**Special Note: Before enrolling in a summer course, students are expected to speak with their TCS guidance counsellor to discuss academic pathways and university admissions implications. Students and families should be aware that there is a possibility that a few post-secondary programs might wish to see core Grade 12 courses taken during the year at a student’s home school.
This course is open to any secondary school student registered in an independent, public or separate school.
