Keep the Ice in the PCMR!
PCMR Ice Project Progress
50%

Goal: $500,000 | Funds Raised: $250,000 | Updated: November 4, 2024

Our Hockey Tradition

The PCMR has served TCS well for close to 75 years. We now urgently need your help to keep the ice in the rink.

A typical rink concrete ice surface lasts 20 – 30 years. We’ve been fortunate that ours has lasted 40 years since the last replacement. However, cracks are appearing, which can render the rink unusable.

We urgently need to raise $500,000 to replace the ice surface and related work in the rink next summer. To date, $250,000 has been raised. Please see the note below from TCS’s athletic director and hockey coaches, and click here to make your gift today.

Hockey has a long and impactful history at TCS. Boys played hockey as early as 1881 with inter-school competition beginning in 1908. TCS played exclusively on outdoor ice until the construction of the Peter Campbell Memorial Rink in 1951. For close to 75 years, PCMR has been one of the School’s flagship athletic facilities and home ice for hundreds of boys and girls at TCS

Home ice is essential for TCS hockey. Unlike many of our competitor schools in Toronto, there is not sufficient ice time available at local arenas to support hockey at TCS.

As we look ahead to the 2024/25 season, we will ice three teams: Bigside & Littleside Boys and Bigside Girls playing in competitive leagues organized by the Conference of Independent School Athletic Association (CISAA). Many students chose to come to TCS because we offer hockey. For many it is the first time they can walk to hockey practice after classes and walk home to their boarding house or to a waiting school bus for day students.

Competitive athletics at TCS including hockey plays an important role in the School’s mission of: Developing habits of the heart and mind for a life of purpose and service. Discipline, commitment, teamwork and perseverance are all values well learned as part of hockey team.

The PCMR is one of several facilities on campus which distinguishes TCS from other independent schools. The TCS community has rallied with donations at various times over the last 75 years to ensure we continue to have home ice. The roof has been replaced, dressing rooms have been expanded and ice making equipment has been repaired all with the generous support of the TCS community.

It is now our turn to support home ice at TCS! Please make your gift to the PCMR Improvements Fund today at www.tcs.on.ca/donate.
