Trinity College School’s Spring Athletic Awards, held Tuesday, June 11th in the Memorial Chapel, were a chance to look back on an exciting spring term in competitive sports, as well as celebrate overall achievement by student-athletes throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. Specifically, the spring term saw CISAA medals in track & field, badminton, golf, soccer and rugby, including CISAA gold for two of our hurdlers, the Littleside boys rugby team and Bigside baseball team. Plus, athletes qualified to participate in the OFSAA provincial championships in tennis, track & field and rugby, with Bigside boys rugby capping off the season by winning the provincial bronze medal!

Three athletes earned Distinction awards for the spring term, recognizing students who display a superior level of performance as well as serving as leading ambassadors for the School through their athletic involvement. Congratulations to Bigside rugby players Jack McLernon and Matthew Anderson, and track & field standout Aidan Small.

As part of the ceremony, coach and mathematics teacher Tom Langford was recognized as he retires at the end of this academic year. Among his contributions to athletics, Mr. Langford helped establish the baseball program at TCS, and his foundational role was honoured with the naming of the J. Tom Langford MVP Trophy for baseball.

The spring ceremony is a chance to recognize the outstanding athletes of the year in each grade (with the Grade 12 award to be handed out on Speech Day), as follows:

  • Paterson Trophy for Grade 9: Xavier Caletti, Noah Shepherd, Dara Westrop
  • F.G. Osler Cup for Grade 10: Cameron Joyal, Abby Richards
  • R.C.N. Wright Trophy for Grade 11: Addy O’Grady, Brodie Reilly

As well, Bigside ties were presented to 26 athletes and Bigside colours plaques to 44 students. Bigside ties signify an athlete’s third term of participation at the Bigside level during their TCS career. Colours are reserved for Senior (Grade 11 and 12) athletes who display respect and teamwork throughout at least four terms of Bigside athletic involvement. Click here to view the full list of recipients.
