Bigside welcomes international field to hockey tournament

Trinity College School’s Bigside boys put their best foot forward as they welcomed teams from Canada and the U.S. to the Proctor International Ice Hockey Tournament, held February 7th to 9th in the Peter Campbell Memorial Rink.

The tournament is named after the late Brian Proctor, a long-time director of admissions and hockey coach at TCS. This year’s event included eight teams split into two divisions, each named after an accomplished alumni hockey player: Toni Soderholm ’97 and Ben Chapdelaine ’97.

In the Soderholm Division, TCS faced off against Hoosac School (Hoosick, New York), King’s-Edgehill School (Windsor, Nova Scotia) and CISAA league rival UCC from Toronto. The Chapdelaine Division featured Ontario teams A21 Academy (Windsor) and Le Sommet (Hawksbury), as well as Stanstead College from Quebec and Gilmour Academy (Gates Mills, Ohio).

TCS beat Hoosac (6-5) and King’s-Edgehill School (6-3) on Friday before tying UCC, 1-1, in the final round robin game on Saturday afternoon. The tie breaker formula saw UCC take the top spot in the Soderholm Division and TCS moved on to play Gilmour Academy in the semi-final. A 7-3 loss gave the Bears fourth place overall.

In an exciting championship game, UCC pulled the goalie with two minutes left in the game but came up short as Stanstead College took the title, 5-3.

Thank you to the visiting teams and coaches, and to our Bigside players, for putting on a great showcase of hockey over the course of the weekend.
