How you can help your Junior School child build habits of the heart and mind

During this period of e-learning, your child may have some homework to complete outside of class time, but that is intentionally being minimized to manage the amount of time our Junior School students are spending on screens each day. However, your child has lots of options: they should be reading for at least 30 minutes a day, and being physically active for a minimum of one hour a day (preferably outside, if it is safe to do so).

Beyond our academic work online, it is also important that our students continue to develop and practise the "habits of heart and mind" that are at the core of our TCS mission statement, and of our days together in Boulden House. To help our students with this goal, the teachers have created a list of various activities designed to promote perseverance, integrity, courage, creativity and compassion. You can click here to download this list, and we suggest that you print it off, put it on your fridge, and encourage your children to work through the activities. Of course, feel free to add your own as well! We will check in regularly with the students during homeform times to talk about the various things they are doing from this list. They are also encouraged to journal about the activities, and send photos to Ms. Torrible and Ms. McNutt so that they can post them on the Junior School library homepage or include them in the newsletter.
