Even as the spring term brought a change in the learning environment at Trinity College School, our students continued to embrace their creativity while working from their homes around the world. And to cap off a wonderful year in the arts, the annual Senior School Arts Awards were presented via video on Thursday, June 4th, hosted by Director of Co-Curricular Arts Jessie Ironside and an array of student and staff arts leaders.
Awards were presented to students at various levels in recognition to commitment to involvement in theatre (technical and performing), music and dance. Our visual arts awards will be included in the Speech Day prize giving, along with other select arts prizes.
A total of 63 students earned Commendation in the arts, with another 29 students recognized with awards of Excellence. Distinction, the School’s highest arts honour, recognizes not only superior skill, but also a student who has shown dedication, leadership and served as an ambassador for the School through their arts involvement. Four graduating students earned Distinction this year: Liesl Ge (dance), Jayden Lefebvre (music), Alastair Gray (theatre) and Victoria Wilson (theatre). Of note, several students received awards denoting superior contributions to more than one area of the co-curricular arts program.
Four specific awards were also presented on Thursday. The Cosmo Music Award went to Grade 11 student Frances Harvey and the John H. Bassett Music Award went to Grade 12 student Sydney Semmler. The Stevenson Award for Acting was presented to Anastasiia Solovei, one of the stars of the fall production of A Streetcar Named Desire. And the Warner Dance Trophy went to Nita Das, co-captain of the TCS Dance Troupe.
Thanks were given to Ms. Jane Morton and Ms. Rachel McHolm for their contributions to the arts program during their terms as residential assistants at the School. All of our co-curricular arts group leaders deserve gratitude for inspiring our students to explore their talent for and appreciation of the arts.
