March Book Madness brings spirited debate!

Over the first four weeks of March, Junior and Senior School librarians at Trinity College School asked students and staff to do the impossible: pick just one favourite children’s book! “March Book Madness” saw a bracket of 16 picture book classics face off each week in voting to determine a champion.

Could you chose between And Tango Makes Three and The Paper Bag Princess? Or Walter the Farting Dog and Franklin?

Each week students and staff cast their votes and the selections were narrowed, NCAA-style, from the Sweet 16 to the Elite 8, Final 4 and, ultimately, the Championship Final: a face-off between Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd.

The morning of Monday, March 29th, the winner was announced live by Headmaster Grainger to eager audiences in the Junior and Senior Schools. The Very Hungry Caterpillar took home the trophy.

Over the span of four weeks, 746 votes were cast, with each vote earning a ticket into a draw to win a copy of one of the 16 books in the bracket. Winners announced Monday were:

  • Junior School: Alex Pickering (Grade 8)
  • Senior School: Alexa Braganza (Grade 10)
  • Staff: Ms. Sydney Keiser

March Book Madness was a great way to celebrate our love of reading at TCS, and brought back many fond memories for students and staff alike. Who knew picture books could lead to such passionate discussion and debate?
