Over the past 18 months of the global pandemic, Trinity College School students have become well-acquainted with the phrase “smiling with your eyes,” as we viewed each other wearing masks. So the opening week of the 2021-2022 school year has been a wonderful chance to see each other’s full smiles in outdoor settings, as we continue to welcome students to campus.
On Wednesday, September 8th, our Junior School students were invited back to Boulden House for the start of classes. As Head of Junior School Jennifer Wyatt noted, the focus this year is very much on community: “TCS has always been a strong community, but, more than ever, we need to perhaps not rebuild, but re-establish that community after so much time online over the last two years. We have always known what we value, and we will revisit and re-immerse ourselves in our shared values. In person, we will continue to place enormous value on relationships as they allow us to support each other, share experiences, feel a sense of belonging, access resources, learn together, interact with peers and within a community; we complement each other – thus making us stronger.”
She said the sense of excitement and community-building was already happening in the build-up to opening day, including at faculty meetings held prior to the start of classes and during the New Student Drop-in held on Tuesday afternoon, where new students were able to see Boulden House, many for the first time, and meet their “buddies” (returning students who will help them get settled in the Junior School) and their teachers. “The adults of Boulden House are thrilled to have students back in person!” Ms. Wyatt added.
Senior School boarders continued to move back onto campus, with returning Grade 10 and 11 students getting situated in their residences in shifts throughout the day. And returning Senior School day students were on hand to welcome their new housemates to TCS. A busy slate of chapels, meetings and grade-based socials was capped off with fun house activities and dinner.
Thursday will be the final day of move-ins, with our new Grade 9-11 boarders coming to campus!
