Gingerbread houses raise funds for local Habitat for Humanity

Cirne Commons at Trinity College School was filled with the sights – and scents – of the holidays as Senior School students participated in the 7th Annual Habitat for Humanity Gingerbread Festival. On Friday, November 26th, houses created by various groups around campus, including advisees, houses and staff groups, were on display in the commons. Students and staff wandered through the tables to select their favourite designs from the 40 entries. In addition to icing, the houses were decked with chocolate bars, candies, marshmallows, sprinkles and more! There were even a few multi-unit dwellings in the mix. Congratulations to the top three TCS gingerbread houses: Mrs. Straughan’s advisee group in third place, Ms. McKay-LePage’s advisee group in the runner-up spot, and the residential assistant group which took first place.

All of the houses are also part of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland’s online competition. Funds raised through the program support Habitat’s efforts to provide housing to families in our local community. Habitat has been a long-time community partner in our service learning programs, with TCS students serving at build sites and the Habitat ReStore in years past.

You can view all of this year’s gingerbread houses and participate in voting between now and December 9th at: https://trellis.org/7th-annual-gingerbread-festival (note: there is a fee for voting that goes toward Habitat fundraising).
