TCS announces new incoming Head of Junior School

We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Jennifer Reid will officially become TCS’s Head of Junior School as of the 2022-2023 academic year.

With the November announcement that Ms. Jennifer Wyatt would be leaving the position of Head of Junior School at the end of this academic year to pursue other education-related opportunities, the School embarked on an extensive search process to identify her successor. Following the advertisement of the position nationally, over 50 exceptional candidates were considered by the School’s selection committee through an extensive series of interviews, eventually leading to the identification of a successful candidate.

Mrs. Reid’s 20-year track record of successfully supporting TCS students and their families has been evident over the past few weeks while holding the position of Interim Head of Junior School (due to Ms. Wyatt’s current leave of absence). It is clear that her positive and welcoming approach, paired with her education and leadership skills, will serve our community well moving forward.

Mrs. Reid earned a B.A., B.PHE. and B.Ed. (Primary/Junior/Intermediate Qualifications) from Queen’s University. She has continued her professional development, gaining additional qualifications including: special education specialist, English as a Second Language specialist, librarianship (Part 1) and guidance/career education (Part 1). Mrs. Reid also completed the Principal’s Qualification Program (with an independent school focus) at York University and is in the process of securing a CAIS diploma in Independent School Leadership.

Most recently working as the Junior School’s student and academic support teacher, Mrs. Reid’s inclusive approach to learning and commitment to overall student wellbeing made a particular impression on the selection committee. “I am thrilled by this opportunity and look forward to working with the Junior School and extended community to support a strong post-pandemic environment of learning, leading and service. The landscape of education has changed and helping students strengthen their academic, social-emotional and learning skills will be a priority,” shares Mrs. Reid.

When commencing her new role, Mrs. Reid will lead and inspire a talented teaching and support staff of 16 and an engaged student body of approximately 100 students; she will also be an active member of the School’s shared leadership team.

Looking to the future, Mrs. Reid says, “The TCS faculty and staff are dedicated professionals who are passionate about working with students and engaging learners. We will seize the opportunity to look ahead to the future of education with excitement, innovation, inclusivity and wellbeing – all while keeping our students at the centre of all we do. I’m glad we’re on this journey together!”

Please join me in congratulating and supporting Mrs. Jennifer Reid as she prepares to take on this important leadership role in Boulden House.
