Celebrating community with a special Half Day!

Senior School students were excited to learn that they would be enjoying a surprise Half Day, in celebration of the TCS community, on Wednesday, February 23rd. On Wednesday morning, called to an online meeting hosted by Headmaster Grainger and Head Prefects, Bolu Abiola and Gordon Bennett, students were not sure what to expect, but it soon became apparent that afternoon classes would be deferred in favour of an afternoon of coming together as a community.

With an assortment of activities planned, students were able to choose how they wanted to spend their time. Some designed posters in support of sports teams competing that day, others opted to watch a movie in the Dick & Jane LeVan Theatre, and some students tried their hand at table tennis in Cirne Commons. The Bigside hockey teams, volleyball and squash teams enjoyed plenty of student and faculty spectators, who enthusiastically cheered on the Bears, and pre-game lunch offerings included a “tailgate” party outside the rink! The library was open all afternoon for those who preferred a quiet place to read a book or play chess.

The afternoon was a success, with students and staff alike enjoying the opportunity to renew connections, conversation and community. With the gradual easing of pandemic-related restrictions in the province, the hope is that this event will mark the return of other familiar TCS activities, initiatives and events this spring which have been necessarily paused during the pandemic. Despite the light snow that fell on Wednesday afternoon, this special Half Day signaled optimism for a more engaging spring on campus.
