Unprecedented number of students take part in AP Capstone Showcase

On Monday, April 25th and Tuesday, April 26th, students in the Advanced Placement Research course at Trinity College School presented and defended their year-long research, in the Gibson Room of the Senior School library, during the AP Capstone Showcase. This year marked a return to in-person presentations, with the option also available to view the event via a Zoom webinar. This year’s presentations were special in that an unprecedented 24 students took part!

Since September, the AP Research students have developed a research question, implemented an appropriate inquiry methodology, conducted an in-depth study on their topic and composed a 5,000 word research paper. The AP Research course is part of the AP Capstone program, a demanding two-year program that focuses on critical thinking, collaborative problem solving and research skills in a cross-curricular context.

The public presentations and oral defense are the final assessment in the AP Research course and the culmination of many months of hard work. Presentations ran the gamut of current news-making issues such as genome testing and editing, racism and stereotyping, mental health, blockchain, and also highlighted issues and areas of personal interest for the students, from gaming to young adult fiction. Below is a full list of presenters and their research topics.

Congratulations to all of the AP Research students who shared their insights; presenting for an audience of teachers, peers and parents is never easy and these students showed courage and determination, as well as knowledge, in their presentations.
