Sports Updates: Track & Field, Tennis Ultimate Frisbee, Baseball and Softball

Track & Field: Competing at the Conference of Independent Schools Athletics Association (CISAA) Championships this week, 10 Trinity College School runners stamped their ticket for the upcoming Metro track meet!

The CISAA Championships were held May 16th and 17th at York University. Qualifying for the Metro regional meet, with hopes of moving on to the provincials, are:

  • Aeowyn Comissiong – 2nd in Novice 80m low hurdles
  • Jay Turnquest – 2nd in Junior 400m dash, 4th in Junior long jump
  • TianTian Dong – 3rd in Senior 400m dash, 4th in Senior 100m dash
  • Timi Martins – 4th in Novice 100m dash, 2nd in Novice long jump, 3rd in Novice 200m dash
  • Xyon Johnson – 4th in Junior triple jump
  • Aidan Small – 4th in Junior 400m dash, 3rd in Junior 800m run
  • Luque Lockhart – 4th in Senior 400m dash, 4th in Senior 400m low hurdles
  • Andrew Richards – 2nd in Junior 3000m run
  • Toyo Udoeyop – 2nd in Senior long jump
  • Charlotte Belanger – 4th in Novice 800m run

There were also a number of fifth-place finishes which could see students qualify for Metros in the event that another athlete is unable to compete.

The Metro Invitational will take place May 25th and 26th at Birchmount Stadium in Toronto. We wish all of the competitors the best of luck!

Tennis: Five TCS tennis players competed this week in the qualifying event to earn a spot in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championships. Representing TCS at the qualifier, held May 17th at the Mayfair East facility, were Philippe Dulac (high school boys singles); Luke Dumoulin and Will Horsbrugh-Porter (high school boys doubles); Lily Wright (high school girls singles); and Serar Omar (open girls singles). Serar has earned a spot in the OFSAA Championships, taking place May 30th and June 1st in Toronto. You can follow her results at www.ofsaa.on.ca/tennis. Congratulations to all of the competitors who represented the School so well at the qualifier!

Ultimate Frisbee: The Bigside ultimate Frisbee team has some exciting news to share – they won their first game. On May 19th, Bigside took on Bayview Glen, winning 8 to 7 in a closely contested match!

Baseball: The Bears have had a great week, starting with a win against Crescent School, 5-3, on May 17th. This was followed by a second victory for Bigside baseball, on May 18th, when the team bested St. Andrew’s College, 2-1.

Softball: With softball back for the 2022 spring sports term, the Bigside team has been enjoying a strong schedule. They currently sit at a record of 2-1, with wins over St. Clement’s School (11-9 on May 9th) and Greenwood College School (10-9 on May 18th). Their only loss came against Bayview Glen, on May 19th, by a score of 8-10.
