Grad events signify beginning of transition to TCS alumni

With Speech Day on the horizon, in recent days members of the Leaving Class of 2022 have had the opportunity to reflect and celebrate their upcoming graduation. On May 26th, the philanthropy & alumni office hosted the Leaving Class Dinner, beginning with a garden party at The Lodge and followed by a special meal in Osler Hall. Grads donned their finest for the occasion. Among the highlights of the evening were the presentation of two honours. The Merv Anthony award was received by Kamsy Onyekere. As determined by a vote of the graduating class, this award recognizes a student who “best exemplifies the qualities of quiet humour, perseverance and, above all, genuine concern for others.” The Year Chairs for the class of 2022 were also announced: Bolu Abiola and Nadia Simmonds. Selected by their peers, the year chairs will serve as a point of contact for the class, helping to organize class events such as reunions, assisting with fundraising and helping grads stay in touch with one another. Congratulations to Kamsy, Bolu and Nadia!

On Tuesday, May 31st, a special morning chapel service was held in honour of the graduates, culminating in the grads being “clapped out” of the Memorial Chapel by staff and Grade 9-11 students lining the pathway. The procession led down to the site where the class of 2022 tree will be planted. Each year, the Leaving Class is honoured with the planting of a tree on campus, and this year the Head Prefects, Bolu Abiola and Gordon Bennett, were joined by many classmates in the ceremonial ground-breaking for the class tree.

Grad Fun Day, another initiative of the philanthropy & alumni office, took place on Wednesday, June 1st, and the inclement weather could not stop the good time that was had by all! Grads were so happy to put on their “Class of 2022” t-shirts and to sign one another’s shirts. They enjoyed a barbecue lunch under the tents on the east side of campus, before boarding the buses to spend the afternoon watching a film at Rainbow Cinemas in Cobourg.

With exams fast approaching, these events represented a welcome opportunity for the graduates to have some fun and reminisce about their time at TCS, as well as to look forward to their next phase, as alumni of the School.
