Trinity College School’s Bigside and Middleside girls volleyball teams were thrilled to host their annual invitational tournament, December 15th and 16th, welcoming peer schools for two days of early season competition. The event is a chance for players to bond as a team and put skill development into action. For Middleside, there was the additional challenge of facing off against other schools’ Senior or first teams.

Bigside kicked things off with a narrow loss to Greenwood College, 1-2 (25-17, 19-25, 11-15) on Friday afternoon. At the same time, Middleside got the better of Prince Edward CI in a two-set win (25-21, 25-11), but couldn’t hold off a strong Lakefield College team later that afternoon, falling in two sets (15-25, 20-25).

Friday evening’s match was a triumph for Bigside in front of the home crowd. It was an energizing night that included a rousing performance by the TCS Drumline, and Bigside came away with a strong two-set win (25-8, 25-19) over Norwood DHS.

Round robin play wrapped up Saturday morning, with Bigside beating Holy Cross (25-20, 25-18) to post a 2-1 record and earn a spot in the semi-finals. Middleside fell to ESC Sante-Marie (10-25, 17-25) and thus failed to advance, but the team can be very proud of its showing!

In the semi-finals, Bigside faced Lakefield College, one of its CISAA league rivals. The Bears played a strong game, taking the win in straight sets (26-24, 25-21). This put the team into the final, a rematch against the tough Greenwood squad. Despite coming out strong to take the first set 26-24, the Bears dropped the next two sets (18-25, 6-15) and would have to settle for an admirable second place.

Congratulations to Greenwood for taking the tournament title, and to the third place winners, ESC Sainte-Marie. A shout-out to all of the teams who participated in the event, and to everyone in the TCS community who lent a hand throughout the tournament.
