Sixteen Trinity College School students have earned the chance to play alongside peers from across the province as part of the 37th Conference of Independent Schools (CIS) Music Festival. Each year, hundreds of students complete auditions in the hopes of being selected to the CIS festival, which includes rehearsals and the culminating concert at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall.

This year, the competition was even greater, with the CIS receiving record numbers of applications, making our students’ achievements all the more impressive.

Music teacher Emma Crawford was pleased to announce the highest number of Junior School students to date to successfully audition for the CISMF Concert Band. They are:

  • Crystal D., flute, Grade 8
  • Edward L., flute, Grade 7
  • Antonia P., clarinet, Grade 8
  • Isabella I., clarinet, Grade 7
  • Julia L., trumpet, Grade 8
  • Lucas G., trombone, Grade 8
  • Ammar A., euphonium, Grade 6
  • Luke K., euphonium, Grade 6
  • Alicia L., percussion, Grade 8
  • Arwen R., percussion, Grade 8

Music teacher David Ioannou was proud to share the news that the following Senior School students will take part in CISMF bands, as noted:

  • Michelle K, Wind Ensemble, Grade 11
  • Nicole W., Wind Ensemble, Grade 9
  • Tony W. Wind Ensemble, Grade 9
  • Arjun S., Chamber Orchestra, Grade 11
  • Connor D., Symphonic Band, Grade 9
  • Ira H., Symphonic Band, Grade 9

Of note, just six Grade 9 students from across the province were selected to the Wind Ensemble, with two of those coming from TCS!

The next step for these student-musicians will be rehearsing with their ensembles for the first time in February. They will have another chance to rehearse in April for the two days leading up to the concert. The CIS Music Festival Concert, which is traditionally a sold-out show, will take place Saturday, April 13th at Roy Thomson Hall. To learn more, visit the CISMF website.

Congratulations to the students who were selected to the CISMF and to all those who challenged themselves by auditioning for this very competitive festival.
