Soney family visit a time for reflection in advance of National Indigenous History Month
  • Soney Family

Trinity College School was honoured to welcome the Soney family back to campus between May 28th and 30th, to mark the 131st anniversary of TCS alumnus Joseph Soney’s (1873-1893) death. Joseph was a member of Walpole Island First Nation and one of the School's first Indigenous students, who arrived at TCS from Shingwauk Home for Boys, a residential school. On Wednesday, May 29th, the School honoured Joseph through prayer and song in chapel.

Over the course of their three-day visit to campus, the Soney family offered their time to speak with Junior School and Senior School students and staff, sharing insights into their family, history and heritage, as well as the generational impacts of our country’s former residential school system. These important reflections are particularly meaningful as National Indigenous History Month begins in June.

We extend a warm thank you to the Soney family.
