Student-led activities put the focus on health and community

In May, the students in the Grade 12 Recreation & Healthy Active Living Leadership (PLF4M) course at Trinity College School showcased their leadership skills by organizing events that not only entertained but also brought the community closer together. The leadership class students created various events in answer to the question “how may you plan, deliver and reflect on a meaningful leadership initiative that focuses on promoting healthy, active living within the Trinity College School community?”

Event planning presented opportunities for the students to construct and develop their individual leadership skills while also bringing the community together. Under the supervision of the teachers, they took charge of planning and executing the events from start to finish. From brainstorming ideas to assigning tasks, they demonstrated teamwork and organization skills.

One of the highlights of the event was the variety of games and activities designed by the students, such as basketball dunk contests, a talent show, beach volleyball tournaments, arts activities and cake decorating competitions. There was something for everyone to enjoy.

Reflecting on their experience, some of the students shared their thoughts:

  • “This leadership assignment allowed me to step out of my comfort zone.” – Saif, Grade 12
  • “This leadership assignment was inspiring as we were all once in Grade 9, but were able to now inspire the current Grade 9s.” – Bolu, Grade 11

Each event was thoughtfully planned to promote inclusivity and teamwork, fostering a sense of belonging among all participants. We can’t wait to see what our future leadership students come up with next year!
