Commerce Society members excel at DECA Regionals

Twenty-seven members of the Trinity College School Commerce Society participated in the Ontario DECA Area 6 Regionals, held at Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby on November 5th. It was a fun-filled day of competition and networking.

Through conferences and competitions, DECA instills professionalism and prepares youth to respond to authentic business cases and market demands.

Ten TCS students received awards in their respective events at the regional competition:

  • Graham Dunkley, Avery Vrooman and Marina Zhu each received a ribbon for completing a top 10 exam
  • Anna Dobrinski, Tai Mitchell-Joseph, Kyle Thomas and Terry Wu received ribbons for completing a top 10 exam and finishing in the top 10 overall
  • Nicolas Canu received ribbons for completing a top 10 exam, presenting a top 10 roleplay and finishing in the top 10 overall
  • Jaxson Papadopoulos and Samuel Saturno received a ribbon for presenting a top 10 roleplay and a medal for finishing second overall!

Eight students from TCS qualified from the regional competition and will be competing at the DECA Ontario Provincials in February, held in Toronto:

  • Graham Dunkley – Principles of Business Management and Administration
  • Kyle Thomas – Principles of Finance
  • Nicolas Canu – Personal Financial Literacy
  • Terry Wu – Automotive Services Marketing
  • Anna Dobrinski and Tai Mitchell-Joseph – Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making
  • Jaxson Papadopoulos and Samuel Saturno – Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making

As well, the following eight students will be presenting their research papers at the provincial competition:

  • Arjun Sharma – Independent Business Plan
  • Eason Fan, Nicolas Shi and Angela Zhang – Start-Up Business Plan
  • William Liu, Joachim Wu and Cyrus Yau – Buying and Merchandising Operations Event
  • Hebe Lu – Hospitality and Tourism Operations Event

Congratulations to all members who competed, but especially those who are now one step closer to qualifying for the International Career Development Conference, which will be held in Anaheim, California in April. Special thank you to Mr. David Jones, who helped provide guidance and support to the students at regionals.
