Sports Update: Field Hockey, Harriers, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball

The playoffs are officially underway! It’s been an exciting week, with our Bigside field hockey team capturing CISAA gold, and other teams making their way through the playoffs.

Field Hockey: Bigside field hockey captured CISAA gold! The team bested Branksome, 1-0, at home on Friday, October 27th to book a spot in the final four, hosted by league-leading Havergal on Monday, October 30th. The Bears brought their A-game, knocking off Havergal, 2-0, and then winning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over De La Salle in the final. Our Middleside DII team wrapped up league play with a 6-1 win over Havergal on Monday. Our Littleside and Middleside teams head to the CISAA Championships on Friday, November 3rd.

Harriers: The qualifiers for the OFSAA Cross-Country Championships are confirmed. Representing TCS are Novice runners Noah Shepherd and Evan Thomas, and in the Junior division, Caden Keystone and Michael Hassard. Two teams have also stamped a ticket to the provincial meet: the Senior girls (Abby Richards, Charlotte Patterson, Bianca Rigamonti, Abby Moorjani and Avery Vrooman, with alternate Iza Doruszuk); and Senior boys (Aidan Small, Andrew Richards, James Hassard, Nolan McReelis and Justin Samson, with alternate Ayaan Chaudhary. Basketball: After finishing the regular season as the top team in the East Division of CISAA, Bigside basketball started its playoff campaign on Wednesday, November 1st with a strong 42-14 win over Hillfield-Strathallan at home. The team will move on to the semi-finals on Friday, November 3rd with the aim of earning a spot in the final on November 8th. Under-14 basketball landed in second spot in the CISAA standings at the end of the regular season, and will head to the final four on November 3rd, facing The York School in the semi-finals.

Soccer: Middleside soccer won its playoff opener, 4-1, over Lakefield at home on Monday, October 30th (click here for photos from the game). Then it was off to the semi-final against Pickering College on November 1st, where the Bears put up a valiant effort against the top team in the league, losing a heart-breaker, 4-5. Under-14 soccer finished the season tied for the top spot in the CISAA league and looks forward to its playoffs, on Friday, November 3rd at Albert College.

Volleyball: Bigside volleyball closed out its CISAA season on a high note on Monday, October 30th, posting a three sets to love win over Appleby College here at TCS.
