Badminton: The spring sports season is gearing up, and Trinity College School’s badminton players had an early test as they hosted the provincial qualifying tournament for the CISAA league on Wednesday, April 26th. Mixed doubles partners Eason Chen and Jennifer Zhang have earned a spot in the OFSAA Championships taking place at TCS, May 11th to 13th.

Rugby: Also in action were the Senior School rugby teams, who headed east to Ottawa to play in the Ashbury College tournament, April 20th to 21st. This warm-up event was a chance to work on skill development and bond as teammates.

The Bigside girls rocketed through the tournament, starting with back-to-back wins over Cairine Wilson SS, 22-10 and 15-5. This was followed by a strong 20-10 victory over South Carleton HS. The team wrapped up the tournament beating the host Ashbury team, 30-10 and 45-0 to complete the sweep.

The Bigside boys started off well, with a 5-0 win over South Carleton HS and 15-0 over Sacred Heart, but finished the event with a loss to Ashbury (5-15) and a nailbiter that went the way of Loyola HS (5-7).

The Littleside boys side was a force to be reckoned with throughout the tournament, beating Cairine Wilson SS, 25-0, then South Carleton HS, 10-0. The team finished the event undefeated with a 25-10 win over Ashbury.

Baseball: Bigside hosted its annual Baseball Showcase on April 25th and 26th at the Town Park diamond, welcoming local public school teams for two days of early season competition. The Bears played three games, starting with a loss to St. Mary CSS from Cobourg, 10-0. The team bounced back in the second game, losing narrowly to Peterborough's Holy Cross CSS, 5-4, with strong pitching from Matthew Fisk and Easton Joss, and Will McLean hitting a double to drive in a pair of runs. The Bears' third game, against Anderson CVI from Whitby, resulted in a 3-3 tie, with TCS benefiting from terrific pitching from Johnny Brown and Christian Mack. Congratulations to tournament champions, St. Mary CSS, who beat Peterborough's St. Peter CSS in the final, 13-6. The Bears look forward to the start of the regular CISAA league season on May 1st.
