Leadership in Action: Looking back on a busy week in the Senior School
  • Leadership in Action: Looking back on a busy week in the Senior School

Over recent days, students in Trinity College School’s Senior School have been creating chances for community bonding and lots of laughter as the month of April draws to a close.

Beginning on Tuesday, April 18th, students in the Grade 12 Recreation & Healthy Active Living Leadership course have planned a series of activities that will both promote wellness and showcase the organizational and communication skills the students have been learning in the course throughout the year. These activities mark the summative project for students in the PLF4M course. The first event was a fun water challenge, where students worked in relay teams transferring cups of water to see who could fill a bucket fastest (and win some delicious chocolate treats!). This was followed by a three-point shooting contest, a calisthenics competition and an egg toss game, as well as activities planned for specific classes such as a speedball tournament, cricket workshop, table tennis and flag football. There are more events planned by the Grade 12 leadership students in the coming days!

On Thursday, April 20th, the School welcomed members of community partner organizations to the annual Community Concert, held during afternoon flex block in Cirne Commons. Student-musicians, from the TCS Drum Line to Trinity Strings, entertained guests from local retirement facilities and elementary schools. View the Community Concert ’23 gallery for more photos.

Then, on Friday, April 20th, the student leaders of Brent House and Scott House teamed up to organize an evening of game shows and pizza for their peers. Students gathered in Cirne Commons to watch classmates try to win prizes in Name that Tune, Family Feud and more.

More recently, on Wednesday, April 26th, Trinity Students for Social Justice (TSSJ) led a Denim Day non-uniform day in the Senior School to raise awareness and show support for victims of sexual violence. TSSJ leader Amelia Maggi explained, “Denim Day is a campaign in April in honour of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began following a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a sexual assault conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans the interaction between herself and the defendant must have been consensual. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.”

Thank you to all of the students who led and contributed to a busy, engaging week in the Senior School.
