TCS students honoured at Port Hope Civic Awards

The Municipality of Port Hope was pleased to be able to host a live presentation of its annual Civic Awards ceremony the evening of Thursday, May 12th, and Trinity College School students were among those honoured.

The Civic Awards program has been in existence for more than three decades and aims to recognize contributions to the life of the town through arts, athletics and service, as well as highlighting key areas such as agriculture and the environment.

The ceremony, held at the historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Port Hope, included the presentation of Community Service Awards to TCS students Isabelle Brown, Merryn Hamilton and Kristie Lam. These students were nominated by the School’s service learning department based on their support of the local community through volunteerism.

As well, a trio of Grade 11 students was honoured for work in the field of fundraising with a Philanthropy Award. Andrew Li, Eason Yang and Jasmine Chen created an initiative to raise funds for area organizations impacted by the pandemic. Last year, the group raised about $3,900 for Lakeridge Health Foundation. This year, the group has been collecting donations to support the Capitol Theatre and Port Hope Public Library.

Congratulations to all of the Civic Awards recipients, and to our TCS students for their dedication to our local community!
