Winter Sports Report: Squash

Despite the two-year absence of competitive squash at Trinity College School, the number of players in the program was bigger than ever. Squash remains a popular winter sport at the School, with over 50 players gracing the courts this season.

The Bigside team was mostly comprised of new faces, some graduates from the Littleside team and those new to the School. The one holdover from the previous team was Luque Lockhart, the team captain. While the season started slowly, given health and safety restrictions, the pace ramped up quickly, with an intense three-week match schedule. Bigside squash finished the regular season matches with a 2-2 record, which was quite promising given the high turnover of the team and the high quality of the opposing teams. In the playoffs, the team finished in sixth place, with some of the best squash played all season. Bigside squash looks in good shape for next year with some high quality players returning, including #1 Alex Chin and #2 Jenna Askari returning to the fold.

The girls squash team had a fun season, with a large crew of 15 players, more than in any previous season. The team boasted a variety of talent, from those new to the sport to high-end competitive players, including the talented Jenna Askari. The girls team participated in two tournaments, both with over 30 girls competing from several schools. Based on the enthusiasm and high level of play it is clear this new league is bound for great things moving forward.
