Harriers marathon relay becomes annual tradition

Last fall, with competitive athletics on hold due to the pandemic, Trinity College School’s cross country runners wanted to find a way to cap off their season. As a result, the inaugural TCS Harriers Marathon Relay was held, and the event proved so successful that this year’s team was eager to keep the tradition alive. The second annual event was held Wednesday, November 10th.

The format involved teams completing a full marathon (42.2 km) in relay format by running what are affectionately known as “FD Loops”; the usual route run by the School’s chaplain, Canon Don Aitchison. This is a truly challenging race and the students who took on this test are to be commended.

The student event started earlier in the day, with last year’s pace being shattered by the team of Andrew Richards, Aidan Small, Liam Small, Nolan McReelis and James Hassard. These Grade 10 runners clocked at time of 2:36:31, nearly 5 minutes faster than last year’s winning time. Every team was able to finish the race in under 3.5 hours – a tremendous accomplishment!

Later in the day, a half-marathon relay was held for staff, with the “Speed Demons of Deblaquire” (Jodie Fisher, Matt Fox, Simon Banderob, Tiffany Bathurst) taking the title in a time of 1:24:00.

Just as significant was the incredible spirit shown by everyone who took part. It was a great day to celebrate the joy of cross country running!
