Terry Fox’s legacy of hope continues to inspire

The theme of this year’s Terry Fox Run was “Inspiring the Next Generation” and the students of Trinity College School took this message to heart as they participated in their school run event on Friday, September 24th. It was 41 years ago that 19-year-old Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope, dipping his prosthetic leg in the Atlantic Ocean before setting out to run across Canada and raise funds for cancer research. And while Terry was forced to stop running by the cancer that would eventually claim his life, he has inspired generations of people, the world over, to continue in his footsteps.

TCS Junior School students were the first to set off on their run/walk on Friday, with their Senior School counterparts participating later in the afternoon. Many students sported this year’s Terry Fox T-shirts, which honour Terry’s Metis heritage and were created in partnership with the Metis Nation BC.

While the weather was variable, students had smiles on their faces as they enjoyed spending time outdoors with fellow members of their cohorts, and enthusiastically embraced the call to “Try Like Terry.”

Thank you to the run organizers and trail volunteers, and especially our students for demonstrating that Terry’s legacy remains alive and well today!

Note: There’s still time to support the TCS Terry Fox Run. Donate before Tuesday, October 12th through the TCS Online Fundraising Page (if you are donating on behalf of a specific student, be sure to include their name and their Senior School house/Junior School grade to help us track totals).
