Trinity Reads celebrates 10th anniversary

This year’s edition of the Trinity Reads summer reading program at Trinity College School was special in more ways than one. On Friday, September 17th, Senior School students and staff marked the tenth year of celebrating our shared love of reading during book discussions held in small groups around campus.

For the second year, tweaks were made to the program in light of COVID-19 restrictions. Students could pick any book they wished to read and discuss, although a great list of recommendations was presented in the spring based on student and staff suggestions. And again this year book discussions took place in advisor groups. This new format proved popular last year, as advisors and advisees alike welcomed the chance to get to know one another better through talking about their book selections.

One fascinating aspect of this year’s Trinity Reads format is seeing which books appeared on the “most read” list. Popular choices included: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, One of Us is Lying, Scythe and They Both Die at the End (all young adult books recommended by our student book club); Anthony Doerr’s bestselling historical novel, All the Light We Cannot See; The Alchemist, a perennial favourite; The Mamba Mentality by the late Kobe Bryant; and You Win in the Locker Room First, read by players in our hockey program.

Thank you to students and staff for embracing the Trinity Reads program over the past decade. And remember, the Senior School librarians are always happy to hear your book recommendations for next year’s program!
