Welcoming students to a year like no other before

It was a start to the school year unlike any other before in the history of Trinity College School as we welcomed returning boarding students to campus on Tuesday, September 8th. Students were happy to see their friends and housemasters again, but from a distance, while returning to a campus that looked a little different, and with new health protocols in place.

Six months ago, as the March Break began, our students headed home for what was to be a two-week break. Just one week later, it became clear that students and staff wouldn’t be coming back to campus as planned, the result of the emerging COVID-19 global pandemic. Throughout the spring, students and staff bravely continued the school year online, patiently awaiting a time when we could be together again in person. On September 8th, that day finally arrived!

This year, the opening days of school are being spread out over four days to ensure students arriving to campus have the needed time and space to get settled and become familiar with new expectations. But, even with masks on, it was clear there were many smiling faces around campus and students were eager to get the school year underway. Over the next few days we will welcome returning and new day students, returning boarders and the online cohort of TCS Connect students, and Junior School classes will get started in Boulden House.

“I cannot begin to tell you how excited we are to be greeting students this week either in person or in a few circumstances online. The students I have spoken with today are determined to make this an outstanding year for themselves and their peers,” Head of Senior School Kristopher Churchill notes. “Our experience will be different, for sure, due to our important health-related strategies. While the programming and spaces have been altered a bit, the best thing is that the people remain the same. Students and adults alike, we are resilient and adaptable. The faculty and staff are committed to sustaining a quality education and a safe environment conducive to learning.  And, we remain the caring community that TCS has always been known for – ready to learn and work together.”
