Cake auction embraces the theme of “giving back”

Each year for more than two decades, the girls of Rigby and Wright House have joined forces to raise funds for various charities selected by the students through their annual cake auction. This year, with the entire Trinity College School student body spread around the world as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our day girls wanted to continue this special spring tradition, with a new twist!

The Day Girl Cake Auction 2.0 was launched as an online initiative where cakes and other baked goods would be created on the theme of “giving back.” Participants were asked to take a photo of their creation to share with the community. The hope was to find ways to express our gratitude and “pay it forward” even during these difficult times.

The responses were nothing short of heart-warming. Cakes were baked to show thanks for frontline workers. Other treats were safely shared with loved ones, neighbours and co-workers as a sign of how much we care. Our bakers pulled out all the stops, with submissions including cakes, cupcakes, cookies, breads, muffins, brownies, pies and even a pavlova. And the designs were incredible, featuring an array of colours and topped with flowers, sprinkles, strawberries and gold leaf. One cake was filled with candy surprises, while another featured our beloved mascot, Trina the bear.

Thank you to the girls of Rigby and Wright House, their housemasters, and everyone who submitted photos, for sharing the love during this time of social distancing. You can view all of the submissions online by clicking here.
