Alpine skiers claim double OFSAA gold

The alpine ski season wrapped up in spectacular fashion for the Trinity College School team, picking up double gold at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championships, held February 24th and 25th in Collingwood.

Led by Grade 12 student Charlie Wadds, the high school trained boys team captured the individual and team gold medals in Monday’s slalom races. Charlie posted a combined time of 75.87 in his two runs to claim gold at Osler Bluff. His results, joined with those of Henry Sewing (9th place with a time of 81.79), Daniel Mikoluk (14th with a time of 84.77), as well as Liam Gibson and Aidan Gibson, put the TCS boys on the top of the OFSAA podium.

Our high school trained girls also had a great day on the slopes, finishing fifth overall in slalom. This included strong finishes by Gracie Menzies, Eliza Khadjavi, Anika Walters-Picov and Paige Zammit.

The second day of competition, which featured giant slalom races, was a little more challenging for the Bears. Top finishers of the day were Gracie Menzies, placing 9th (1:32.93) in the high school trained girls category, and Henry Sewing in 15th (1:29.52) in the high school trained boys event. The girls placed sixth overall in giant slalom, and the boys landed just shy of the podium in fourth place.

Silas Hodges, racing in the highly competitive open division, was able to rebound from a tough slalom run to finish 25th in the province in the giant slalom with a combined time of 1:28.30.

Congratulations to all of our alpine skiers as well as coaches Dr. Greg Hodges and Ms. Ally O’Grady on the conclusion of a very successful season.
