Students learn more about Duke of Ed program

Trinity College School students had the chance to learn more about the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DOE) Awards program when Karen Gormley, DOE’s senior awards officer for Eastern Ontario, visited the School on Tuesday, January 21st.

The DOE program encourages young people to set and attain goals in areas including community service, physical activity, skill development and adventurous journey. Students track their personal progress through an online record book and, when they have achieved specific standards and received approval from the Ontario DOE office, can earn recognition at the Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

Ms. Gormley helped students one-on-one with their record book submissions and then made a presentation to all of the Grade 9 students on the program. All Grade 9 students at TCS are enrolled in the DOE program automatically, with the understanding that students will work towards completing the Bronze Award by the end of their Grade 10 year. As a result of Ms. Gormley's visit, over 65 new activities have been submitted by students for approval, and two students had their Bronze Awards approved. We look forward to presenting these awards at the School in the near future.

Students are always able to speak with Mrs. Jen Powles (jpowles@tcs.on.ca) about their DOE goals and progress, and families can learn more about the program at www.tcs.on.ca/dukeofed.
