TCS families inspired to read over the holidays

How did you spend your Christmas vacation? For many Trinity College School students, staff and family members, the answer was “reading!” For the third year, the Junior and Senior School libraries hosted a Holiday Reading Challenge over the break, promoting a love of literacy.

The challenge ran from December 20th to January 6th, with participants tracking on either a Google spreadsheet or a printed bookmark each day they read for a minimum of 30 minutes. Each day of reading equaled one entry in a draw for prizes. The range of eligible reading material included everything from books to online articles and even audiobooks. And we were pleased to have an enthusiastic group of parents participate this year!

As students headed back to class on January 7th, the numbers were tallied:

  • In the Senior School, 48 participants (an increase from last year!) read for a combined total of at least 240 hours.
  • In the Junior School, 30 participants read for a combined total of at least 192 hours.

Prize winners from the Senior School were: Kyra Fingas, Acassia Arnaud, Kamsy Onyekere and Ms. Keara Jakic. The Junior School winners were Connor Demrovsky, Aeowyn Comissiong and Sophie Ahuja.

Many participants noted that taking part in the challenge encouraged them to carve out time for reading over the holidays. For the Junior School in particular, parent participation was a motivating factor for the students.

Thank you to everyone who took on the Holiday Reading Challenge!
