Trinity College School’s Bigside and Middleside boys basketball teams hosted a 10-team tournament, January 10th to 11th in the Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre. It was a weekend full of exciting basketball action, including promising play for both TCS teams.
Bigside finished second in its five-team pool to advance to the A semi-final. This included a win over Cobourg CI, 46-32, in the opening game, followed by a strong 61-46 victory over St. Peter’s CSS from Peterborough. Top scorers for the Bears were Yigit Yurdakul with 16 points, Aaron Lancaster with 13, and Eddie Lancaster adding 12 points.
The wins put TCS into the semi-final against a tough Adam Scott CVI team from Peterborough. The Bears struggled to find the bottom of the hoop in this game and, despite some strong defensive play by TCS, Adam Scott opened up in the second half to hand Bigside a 57-30 loss. Aaron Lancaster posted another strong game with 11 points, while Ryan Weng chipped in seven and Luca Mascarin added five points.
TCS’s Middleside squad also had a good showing despite facing other school’s first teams. While the Bears were overmatched against the eventual tournament champions, Adam Scott, they played two very competitive games against Lindsay CVI and Oshawa’s O’Neill Collegiate, with both games going down to the wire. Mitchell Wong led the team in scoring with 20-plus points in two of the three games. Middleside also saw strong performances from Jacky Zhu, Eric Wang and Scott Boughner.
Overall, it was a great learning and bonding experience for both teams, who now look forward to a busy winter season of CISAA league play.
