TCS Fun Facts

Submitted by sgrainger on

Over the course of any academic year, I am frequently asked questions about the special community that is Trinity College School. I thought that I would share some fun facts with you. I have used approximates for ease of reference and recall.

There are 500 students in the Senior School and 100 students in the Junior School.

There are 140 students in each of Grade 11 and 12.

There are 280 boarding students. Our boarding students come from one of 28 countries this year:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Bermuda
  • Canada
  • Cayman Islands
  • China
  • Cuba
  • Denmark
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Japan
  • Macao
  • Mexico
  • Nigeria
  • Qatar
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Turks and Caicos Islands
  • Ukraine
  • United States

We have 200 day students and they come from Port Hope, Cobourg, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Lakefield, Bowmanville, Newcastle, Newtonville, Bailieboro, Selwyn, Peterborough, Claremont, Roseneath, Grafton and Colborne.

Our school was originally founded in Weston, Ontario in 1865, but moved to our present site in Port Hope in 1868 (although, for a short period of time classes were held in town as the School found its footing).

There are 100 educational staff members and 125 operational staff members who support our students and their families. We have 61 people who have been working at TCS for over 20 years.

We have over 500,000 square feet of facilities/indoor space. And, unlike many other schools, TCS does not contract out our culinary services or facilities management – it is all done “in house.”

May 1, 2025 will mark 160 years since our school’s founding.

And, Boulden House, home to the TCS Junior School, is 100 years old this year! On Saturday, November 2nd, we will be hosting the Bouden House Centennial Gala. Tickets are still available! And, I would be more than happy to share some more fun facts about TCS on this celebratory occasion. I hope to see you there!
