For the first official Service Saturday of the academic year at Trinity College School, students volunteered their time on campus on October 15th. This included the fall Big Tree Plant, an initiative that beautifies our campus and contributes to sustainability.

About 35 Senior School students participated in the planting, with 50 trees being added to the campus. These are native species of sugar maple and red maple, which were donated by the Jewett family. Ken Jewett (father of Graeme ’77 and James ’83, and grandfather of Carter ’14) created the Maple Leaves Forever foundation to promote the planting of native maple trees. The trees are completing a three-year project to plant one maple tree for each TCS Old Boy lost in World War I.

It was a sunny but very windy day, and the students showed great care and perseverance throughout the tree planting, notes Ms. Alison Elliott, the School’s sustainability programs director.

Also on Saturday, a small group of keen students lent a hand in the visual arts wing, with tasks including preparing clay and organizing the pottery area of the studio.
