Fun harriers marathon relay caps off season
  • Fun harriers marathon relay caps off season

The Senior School harriers team capped off a fantastic season with the annual Trinity College School marathon relay on Wednesday, November 9th. For the last several years, the runners and coaches have enjoyed the chance to gather one last time at the end of the term for a fun event that has also produced some very strong results.

The event involves teams of four to five students running, relay style, around what is affectionately known as the “FD loop” (the training route around campus used by school chaplain, Canon Don Aitchison). The teams work together to run a total of 42.2 km, a full marathon length, ending at the Memorial Chapel.

Two course records were set at this year’s race, with the “Beach Boys” posting a time of 2:35.57 (setting a pace of 3:42/km) in the open category. The team was made up of members of the Senior boys harriers, fresh off their provincial bronze medal performance: Andrew Richards, Aidan Small, Liam Small, Nolan McReelis and James Hassard. “Teal Ordeal,” made up of four members of the Junior girls team, worked together to post a new course record for female runners. Charlotte Patterson, Abby Richards, Bianca Rigamonte and Hannah Thompson completed the course in 2:59.49 (or 4:09/km).

Every team finished the course in under 3:25, a testament to the strong development and commitment to training the runners have shown over the fall season.

Special thanks to coach Tiffany Bathurst for organizing the event, to coach Renee Hillier for providing great prizes, and to Mr. Stuart Grainger for contributing pizza at the end of the race!
