David Thomas ’82 P’16, chair of the Governing Body of Trinity College School, is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas H. Scott ’81 as vice chair.

“It is a great honour to have been appointed to serve as vice-chair of the TCS Governing Body for the 2022-2023 term,” said Mr. Scott. “Much has changed in the world in the past two-and-a-half years. Despite the challenges presented by such unprecedented and unexpected change, TCS has remained a strong and robust community thanks to the attentive stewardship of its dedicated staff and the welcome support of it students, parents, alumni and friends. I look forward to continuing my involvement with the School in this new role along with the dedicated group of individuals who make up the TCS Governing Body as we work together to ensure TCS is in the very best position to fulfill its mission of developing habits of the heart and mind for a life of purpose and service.”

Mr. Thomas, said, “Doug brings an incredibly rich history, a calm and thoughtful demeanor, and a steady hand to the leadership of the School, expertly balancing out the increasing diversity of experience and backgrounds we continue to seek on the board, as we face the challenges of the future amidst an incredible pace of change.”

Mr. Scott is a member of Trinity College School’s class of 1981. Following graduation from TCS, he attended the University of Toronto (B.A. (Hons) 1986) and Queen’s University (L.L.B. 1989).

Since graduation, Mr. Scott has remained an active member of the TCS community. He was a member of the committee of convocation in the 1980s, the advancement committee in the 1990s and a member of the TCS Governing Body in the early 2000s. He rejoined the governing body in 2015 and has been an active member of the governance committee since then.

Mr. Scott is a corporate lawyer specializing in mergers and acquisitions with the Toronto office of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. He lives in Toronto with his wife and children.

Looking forward, it remains our collective imperative to ensure the School remains fully capable of providing an exemplary educational experience,” said Mr. Scott. “I look forward to working with my fellow board members to ensure TCS remains internationally regarded for excellence in developing leaders of character, purpose and vision due to the strength of its people, program and place.”

Mr. Scott will stand for election by the board of governors as chair of the TCS Governing Body upon Mr. Thomas’s retirement in the fall of 2023.
