Zumba class supports hurricane relief efforts

Danielle Walwyn '11

Members of the Trinity College School community had the opportunity to get fit and support a very worthy cause on Saturday, April 21st, as Old Girl Danielle Walwyn ’11 led a Zumba class in the West Gym of the Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre to raise funds for ongoing hurricane relief in the Caribbean.

This event was hosted by the School’s Islander students, who have been raising money throughout the school year in response to last fall’s devastating hurricanes. Approximately $150 was raised through Saturday’s class, although donations continue to be collected.

Danielle, who was also previously a residential assistant at TCS, was a supportive, friendly and dynamic Zumba leader. Zumba was created in the 1990s by Colombian choreographer Alberto Perez, and combines Latin and hip hop dance moves with aerobics, all set to energizing music. The class was a great chance to learn some fast-paced moves and enjoy physical activity in a large group setting. Several of the Activity for Life clubs and the tennis team even joined in the fun!

Thank you to Danielle, and to the many staff members who supported this initiative by participating in the class and helping with organization.
