Alumni face Bigside for first time on new basketball courts

Again this year, an enthusiastic group of Trinity College School Old Boys made the journey to Port Hope to play against the Bigside basketball team, the evening of Friday, January 19th. This year marked a new era as it was the first alumni basketball game played in the new Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre.

A good crew of alumni played this year: Kennon Higgs ’16, Charlie Pearson ’16, Shiomare Peters ’17, Nana Kwame ’01, Robert MacGeoch ’99  Morgan Martin ’00, George Stirrett-Wood ’05, Karim Harrigan ’99, Nick Babiuk ’02 and Courtney Christ ’95.

The Old Boys used their experience to jump out to an early double-digit lead, but it did not take the Bigside team long to change the momentum of the game. The younger players used the NBA-sized court in the new Sue Burns Gym to their advantage.

The Bigside Bears used their powerful fast-break offence to jump out to a 41-33 lead at the half, and eventually extended their lead by over 20 points in the second half. The alumni managed to muster a last run that cut the deficit to three points, but Bigside prevailed 87-82 in the end.

Ola Ogunmola led Bigside with 17 points while Thorne Ferguson and Eric Kim added 15 and 13, respectively. Morgan Martin led the alumni with 15 points, followed by George Stirrett-Wood with 12 and Kennon Higgs with 11.

Thanks to everyone who came out to play in this fun and competitive match!
