Sixteen swimmers qualify for provincial championships

Trinity College School’s Senior School swim team was flying through the pool at the Markham Pan Am Centre during the Conference of Independent Schools Athletics Association Championships on Wednesday, February 21st. At the end of the day, TCS finished second overall as a team, the Senior (Under-20) girls team placed third, and 16 swimmers stamped their tickets for the provincial meet.

Each member of the team put forth a tremendous effort, as evidenced by the fact that there were 40 personal best times posted throughout the day. A number of individuals and relay teams also landed on the CISAA podium:

First Place:

  • Dana Hawitt – Under-20 100m individual medley (IM)
  • Under-20 200m freestyle relay (Charlotte Patterson, Izzy Smith, Dana Hawitt, Sophie Taylor)
  • Sophie Taylor – Under-20 50m butterfly

Second Place:

  • Under-20 200m medley relay (Hannah Thompson, Maia Taylor, Sophie Taylor, Dana Hawitt)
  • Izzy Smith – Under-16 50m freestyle
  • Maia Taylor – Under-20 100m breaststroke
  • Hannah Thompson – Under-20 50m backstroke

Third Place:

  • Open 200m medley relay (Tristan Merepeza, Edgar Merepeza, Andrew Davidson, Michael Hassard)
  • Semi Ogundipe – Under-20 100m IM 
  • Lauren Riihiluoma – Under-20 50m backstroke
  • Izzy Smith – Under-16 100m IM
  • Hannah Thompson – Under-20 100m backstroke

The swimmers who will be moving on to represent TCS at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Championships are: Evan Thomas, Tristan Merepeza, Andrew Davidson, Michael Hassard, Edgar Merepeza, Izzy Smith, Noah Shepherd, Semi Ogundipe, Andrew Richards, Jason Lines, Liam Small, Hannah Thompson, Maia Taylor, Sophie Taylor, Dana Hawitt and Charlotte Patterson.
