School prefects chase away the “winter blahs” with Spirit Week

The school prefects brought a ray of sunshine to the Trinity College School campus from February 5th to 9th, hosting a Spirit Week filled with fun activities and themed clothing days.

Monday was brightened up with a “Colour Clash” non-uniform day, where each Senior School grade was assigned a specific bright colour to wear. During morning break, the school prefects served hot chocolate and Timbits for a tasty treat to kick the week off.

The annual Winter Olympics headlined Tuesday’s events, with students wearing their house colours as they cheered on their house teams competing in a series of contests in the Peter Campbell Memorial Rink. Challenges such as speed skating, ice dancing and hockey skills brought lots of cheering – and some laughter – for competitors and fans alike, including Trina, the TCS mascot. Shout-out to DJ Joel Wesley for helping to get the crowds pumped up!

Wednesday’s theme was “Generations.” Students and staff were tasked with dressing like a different generation, from babies to grandparents, with staff having a bit of fun dressing like teenagers.

Thursday was the always popular “Twins Day,” where students dress alike with their friends; there were even some triplets, quadruplets and more. House spirit was bolstered by the finals of the interhouse debating tournament in the afternoon.

Events wrapped up on Friday, with “Anything But a Backpack Day.” Students showed some creativity in coming up with interesting “vessels” in which to carry their school supplies throughout the day. And Cirne Commons was rocking during afternoon flex block with Just Dance being played on the big screen. The week wrapped up with Friday night’s community event, which began with a themed dinner in Osler Hall featuring “arena favourites” such as hot dogs, nachos and milkshakes. Everyone was encouraged to “dress like a hockey player” and The Mighty Ducks was shown during the meal. Then everyone headed over to the Peter Campbell Memorial Rink to watch the Bigside boys hockey team as they hosted their annual invitational tournament.

Thank you to our school prefects, and to the staff who supported them, for creating a wonderful week of spirited activities and theme days that helped chase away the “winter blahs.”
