Sports Update: Alpine, Volleyball, Hockey, Basketball

The CISAA league season is getting down to the wire, as TCS teams jockey for playoff position and some teams prepare for upcoming championships. Let’s see how our Bears are doing…

Alpine: The downhill skiers continued to shine in the last of their four CISAA league meets, held Wednesday, February 7th at Mansfield Ski Resort. The girls open, boys open and boys school-trained teams all finished first overall, while the girls school-trained team placed second. And the team learned the exciting news that the girls open, girls school-trained and boys school-trained teams have all qualified for the OFSAA provincial championships!

Top-10 individual results include:

  • Addy O’Grady – 1st place (girls open)
  • Ally Jiang – 1st place (girls school-trained)
  • Emerson Mendum – 1st place (boys school-trained)
  • Léa Jane David Frenette – 2nd place (girls school-trained)
  • Atticus Hodges – 2nd place (boys open)
  • Nic Boisvert – 3rd place (boys school-trained)
  • Claudia Churchill – 6th place (girls open)

The CISAA Alpine Championships are scheduled for next Wednesday, February 14th at Devil’s Glen, with OFSAA set for February 26th to 27th at Osler Bluff in Collingwood. We wish the TCS skiers the best of luck!

Volleyball: Littleside had a great battle with Crestwood Prep during their away game on January 29th. The teams went back and forth, with two of the sets stretching to 26-24, before the Bears were finally able to take the win in the fifth set, 17-15. The Under-14 team has won games at both of its recent mini-meets, besting Pickering College on January 23rd, 2-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-19), and then Country Day School on February 6th in straight sets (25-23, 25-17).

Basketball: Bigside notched an important win on February 7th at home, besting Crescent School, 53-39. The Under-14 squad kept up its winning ways with a strong 51-26 win at the York School on February 1st. With the win, the team kept its undefeated season alive and maintained top spot in the CISAA league standings.

Hockey: The Bigside girls headed to Branksome on January 31st and came away with a 2-2 tie. The Bigside boys will host their tournament this weekend, February 9th to 10th at the PCMR, kicking things off with a 10:30 a.m. game against Greenwood, followed by an exciting “Friday Night Lights” match-up against Lakefield College School at 7:15 p.m.
