The finalists for Trinity College School’s interhouse debating tournament are set! Following the third round of debate on Monday, January 5th, it was announced that Hodgetts will face Burns House in the Junior final, while Orchard will square off against Hodgetts House in the Senior final.

In round two of debates, held Thursday, February 1st, Hodgetts bested Brent, and Wright got the better of Ketchum in the Junior division, where speakers argued the merits of banning dress codes in Ontario high schools. In the Senior division, Hodgetts came through over Burns, and Scott held sway over Bethune, as students debated whether the cost of concert tickets should be limited to make them more affordable.

In round three, Hodgetts and Wright presented a spirited Junior debate on a resolution that would limit high school students’ access to artificial intelligence. In the end, it was Hodgetts who provided the most compelling case and who now moves on to the final against Burns (which earned a direct ticket to the final as the highest scoring team in round one of debate). At the Senior level, Scott and Hodgetts argued the merits of allowing censorship of offensive content available in Ontario high school classrooms and libraries, a challenging topic. Once again, Hodgetts prevailed and will face Orchard, the top team from round 1, in the Senior final.

The finals will be held Thursday, February 8th, with Burns and Hodgetts vying for the Dr. Michael T. DuBroy Junior House Debates Trophy, and Orchard and Hodgetts competing for the Tom Lawson Senior House Debates Trophy.
