Sports Update: Field Hockey & Harriers
  • Two photos stacked, one of cross-country runners standing under a banner and the other of a field hockey team with medals

As the fall term of sports wrapped up this past week, Trinity College School’s field hockey teams continued their CISAA medal haul, and our cross-country runners were in action at OFSAA.

Field Hockey: On the heels of Bigside winning CISAA gold on October 30th, Littleside followed suit, claiming the championship at the final four tournament on Friday, November 3rd at Toronto Montessori School. Littleside won its semi-final against Lakefield to earn a spot in the final against TMS, where the Bears posted a 3-0 win to take the gold!

Middleside DII and DIII also fared well at their CISAA final tournaments on Friday, each winning silver medals. DII took on Country Day in the semi-finals, winning convincingly, 3-0. The final against the league-leading host team, Appleby, was a very tight game which the Bears lost, 0-1. Similarly, DIII won its semi-final, 1-0 against Toronto Montessori, to book a spot in the final against the top team in its league, host school Rosseau Lake. Another close game took place, with the Bears on the wrong end of the 0-1 result.

Harriers: The Senior School harriers competed at the OFSAA Cross-Country Championships held in Etobicoke on November 4th, with Novice runner Noah Shepherd producing the top result for the Bears, placing 18th out of 265 runners. This is the fifth best individual result for a TCS runner at the provincial meet since 2000.

“It certainly was a terrific day for running in ideal weather conditions and the flat, firm course made for punishing paces and incredibly fast fields,” said Steve Patterson on behalf of the coaches. “To our graduates, who ran their last race in a TCS singlet, we hope you view your time racing high school cross-country as one step in your lifelong running journey – the end of an era, yes, but also the beginning of something new. And to those returning to the team next year, we hope your OFSAA experience only fuels your fire for next season.”

The harriers put the exclamation mark on their successful season with the annual marathon relay on Tuesday, November 7th. This event involves teams of three to four runners completing a full marathon length run (42.2 km) in relay format running what is known as the “FD Loop” (a course used by Canon Don Aitchison when he runs). All of the teams finished in under 3.5 hours – an impressive feat! Click here for photos.
