The School would like to welcome Douglas H. Scott ’81 to the position of chair of the Trinity College School Governing Body as of October 3, 2023.

The Governing Body comprises the TCS Board of Governors and the TCS Body of Trustees. The role of the board of governors is to act as a steward of the mission of the Corporation of Trinity College School and to be responsible for overseeing the School’s strategic direction in this regard. The board of governors is the primary policy-making body for the School.

In October 2022, David Thomas ’82 P’16, then chair of the Governing Body of Trinity College School, announced the appointment of Mr. Scott as vice chair, noting that Mr. Scott would stand for election by the board of governors as chair of the TCS Governing Body upon Mr. Thomas’s retirement in the fall of 2023. He noted that, “Doug brings an incredibly rich history, a calm and thoughtful demeanor, and a steady hand to the leadership of the School, expertly balancing out the increasing diversity of experience and backgrounds we continue to seek on the board, as we face the challenges of the future amidst an incredible pace of change.”

Mr. Thomas was recently recognized and thanked for this dedicated service to Trinity College School at the board’s October 3rd Annual General Meeting. Mr. Scott also shares, “I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation and thanks to David Thomas, our retiring chair of the governing body. David’s unwavering dedication and leadership over the past four years has ensured the School remains well positioned for continued sustainability and success in a world of constant change.”

Mr. Scott is a member of Trinity College School’s class of 1981. Following graduation from TCS, he attended the University of Toronto (B.A. (Hons) 1986) and Queen’s University (L.L.B. 1989).

Since graduation, Mr. Scott has remained an active member of the TCS community. He was a member of the committee of convocation in the 1980s, the advancement committee in the 1990s and a member of the TCS Governing Body in the early 2000s. He rejoined the governing body in 2015 and has been an active member of the governance committee since then.

Mr. Scott is a corporate lawyer specializing in mergers and acquisitions with the Toronto office of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. Son of the late Angus Scott, head of Trinity College School from 1962-1983, Mr. Scott lives in Toronto with his wife and children.

“I would like to say how excited I am to be taking on the role of chair of the Trinity College School Governing Body and I thank my fellow board members for their trust. It is a great honour to serve a school with such a long and distinguished history and to have the good fortune of being able to work so closely with those who will support its leadership as it continues to provide an exceptional educational experience for all students.”

On behalf of the extended Trinity College School community, a sincere thank you to Mr. Thomas and a warm welcome to Mr. Scott.
