Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre is ready for action!

We are thrilled to announce the completion of the Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre at Trinity College School. As families arrive to campus beginning on September 5th, they will have the chance to explore this exciting new facility. Note: Prior to September 5th, the building will not be open to families, as our faculty and staff busily put the finishing touches on the space in advance of the school year.

Located on the east side of campus, adjacent to LeVan Hall, the athletic centre ushers in a new era in athletics and physical activity for TCS students, significantly enhancing the School’s existing sports facilities. Included in the 40,000 square foot building are three gymnasiums (one single and one double gym), cardio and resistance training centre, athletic therapy clinic, classroom and office space, change rooms and two additional squash courts (for a total of five). The facility also boasts a welcoming entrance and commons area, which will be a fitting place to celebrate TCS sports history and to welcome visiting teams for games and tournaments.

This project was made possible through the generosity of TCS community members, inspired by a matching gift challenge from lead donors Arnold Massey ’55 and Michael Burns ’56. In recognition of their leadership, the facility will bear Mr. Massey’s name and the double gymnasium has been named in memory of Mr. Burn’s wife, Sue. Both men have been avid athletes throughout their lives, including during their time as students at TCS, and both believe in the importance of athletics in imparting lifelong values of leadership, sportsmanship, commitment and perseverance. Overall, more than $12 million was raised through the Game On campaign from alumni, parents, staff and friends of the School, and through the Game On gala evening hosted in October 2016.

As part of the construction project, new sidewalks have also been installed from Rose Glen Rd. to the new building. This is in anticipation of increased bus traffic for sports teams arriving to the east side of campus. With safety in mind, was ask families to note the no parking signs near the athletic centre; specifically, there is an area indicated for bus parking only just outside the facility. We encourage everyone to make use of the parking lot located just inside the Rose Glen Rd. entrance, on the left. A crosswalk has been added leading from the parking lot to the new sidewalk.

Everyone is invited to come and celebrate the new facility during the 24th annual Bear Fair family harvest festival. The official dedication and blessing of the Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre will take place on Saturday, September 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the Sue Burns Gymnasium. Join us!
