Happy 159th Birthday, TCS!
  • Birthday Images

Under sunny skies, Trinity College School celebrated the 159th anniversary of its founding on Friday, May 3rd. The “birthday party” was just two days belated. It was May 1, 1865 that Revd. William A. Johnson was first granted permission to establish Trinity College School. At the time, the School was a tiny assemblage of just nine students, taught by “Father Johnson” in his parish building at Weston, Ontario. Two years later, the growing school would move to its current home in Port Hope.

On Friday, Senior School students enjoyed a barbecue lunch on the terraces in front of the classroom block that bears W.A. Johnson’s name. They were joined by staff and our Grade 5 and 6 students (with our Grade 7 and 8 classes away from campus for their annual end-of-year trip). While everyone dined on burgers prepared by the culinary services team, DJ Joel (aka Mr. Wesley from the IT services team) pumped out the tunes. Some students even got up and tried out their dance moves!

Lunch was followed by birthday cake in Cirne Hall and then the Senior School houses gathered for pep rallies to get themselves motivated for the afternoon’s signature event: dodgeball! Short eight-minute games saw each of the houses facing off in the Arnold Massey ’55 Athletic Centre. And there were other fun activities on-hand for students, such as crafts, cards and board games.

The day wrapped up with a coffee house hosted by the Arts Council in Cirne Commons, with students and staff showcasing their talents in music, dance and more, while everyone enjoyed snacks and beverages.

The birthday fun even continued into Monday, when the Junior School was back in full force and the Grade 5 through 8 students had cake at morning recess.

What a wonderful opportunity to share in the nearly 160-year history of our school, and to show our pride as members of the Trinity College School community!
