The CISAA league season is now in full swing for Trinity College School’s sports teams. Check out some early results!

Rugby: The boys rugby (XI) teams travelled to UCC on April 24th to open regular season play. Littleside posted a strong win over UCC, 34-7, while Bigside lost to the home team, 12-26.

Tennis: The Bigside boys have come on strong in early CISAA league action. They split their contests on April 16th, losing to Crescent (0-5) but beating Toronto French School (5-0). On April 22nd, the team won both of its contests, 3-2 over Ridley and 4-1 over Greenwood.

Ultimate Frisbee: On Monday, the Bigside ultimate team had their first league game against York School on home soil (click here for photos from the game). Most of the first half of the game was tied, reaching half-time with an 8-6 lead for York. We made some excellent plays and used all the players on the field, but as we were tired, half-time was a well-needed break to reset. As the second half of the game began, the intensity and nervousness on the field surged after we fell three points behind. The Bears stayed calm, making incredible throws and catches that really helped us out and gradually narrowed the scoring gap. Players shone brightly, showing great speed and skills that amazed everyone watching. Our teamwork got better with every minute, and with just around 10 seconds left, we pulled off a stunning play. Our players passed the Frisbee swiftly between them, and a spectacular throw met a game-winning catch by Maeve S. at the buzzer. We won by a narrow margin, 12-11, and the crowd, team and coaches went wild – it was a triumph we’ll always remember! – by Lea Jane David Frenette (Grade 12) and Terry Zhang (Grade 10)

Baseball: The Bears fell to Kiski Junior Varsity, 9-4, on Sunday, April 28th at The Kiski School, during the team’s weekend trip to Pennsylvania. TCS struck first in the opening inning when Tristan Craig hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home Will Bingleman. Tristan pitched four and one-third innings in relief, yielding six hits and five runs, while striking out four and walking six. Aidan Hyslop-Healy took the loss, allowing three runs on one hit in one-third of an inning, with one strikeout. Connor Rodgers and Will B. each pitched an inning in relief. Tristan drove in two runs for TCS, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Will McLean led the team with two hard-hit doubles in three at-bats. The Bears were sure-handed defensively, committing no errors, with Joey Paduano and Jaden Lee leading the defensive charge. TCS was excited to welcome De La Salle on Wednesday, May 1st for the Bears’ first CISAA league game of the season. – by Grant Elson, coach
